A lot of planes can pretty much take off and land by themselves already. A pilot onboard will probably be needed to reassure passengers.
Actually I’ve heard the cockpit in the future will only contain a pilot and a dog. The dogs job is to bite the pilot if the pilot touches any of the controls.

Absolutely. If I was a passenger I would want someone with skin in the game to have his ass on the line.
