This is a perfect example why decent, rational people bitterly resent paying taxes.

In Portland, there is an "Arts Tax" on everyone within the city limits. I think it is around $25, passed back when Portlandians still thought their city was on the cutting edge of a new utopia. Now, the resentment toward just THAT tax by normally "progressive" Portlandians, given the clusterscrew that Portland has become, is truly a thing to behold.
