A pro poker player is alleging that his opponent 'clearly cheated' during a livestreamed game of poker after she returned her earnings to her opponent.
Garrett Adelstein has suggested that his female opponent, Robbi Jade Lew, could have cheated by using a 'device hidden that simply vibrates to indicate you have the best hand.'(snip)
Lew, 35, suddenly made a call to go all-in despite having a relatively poor hand, leaving Adelstein and observers agape.
Those commentating on the game were in disbelief because the odds were stacked against her with online betting casino DraftKings calculating there were around 150 ways for Lew to lose, but only six ways for her to win - which she proceeded to do.
Adelstein forced Lew to go all in with her $130,000 hand and appeared shocked as her cards revealed her to have a 'Jack high', winning the game and taking the entire $269,000 pot.
(snip)
During the game in question Garrett had needed a club, six or a jack, but Lew's jack won the hand.
The look on Adelstein's face as he lost the hand said it all as he stared on in disbelief and simmering rage.
'I don't understand what's happening right now,' he said.
'You look like you want to kill me. I thought you had ace high,' Lew said.
'So, why call with jack high?' Adelstein said. A jack high would have lost to ace high.
'Because you don't have s**t!' Lew said.
Adelstein then got up and left the table.

Who was collecting the information on the other players’ hands and sending her the “real time” information? That is where the axe needs to fall.
Players must (?) reveal their hand to the lipstick camera at the edge of the table, but measures are taken to insure the confidentiality of that data, or so we’ve been told. Most of the time, the commentators add their schtick after the game is over and they never get to see “live” cards.
If somebody figured out a way to intercept that data stream, then nobody will ever show their cards to the camera again, which would kill poker TV.
I watched the video, she definitely removed a stone on the ring. Before and after pictures. She was definitely cheating in my opinion. Why else would she return the money.
The controversy is that ring. She rolled it around on her finger and then put her hand behind her and then the stone was off her ring. She was definitely cheating.
““Hidden vibrating device” ... CHAEATING... did you miss that part?”
There is no physical proof she had a hidden vibrating device...that she cheated.
And her opponent - who went all in with 8 high - was not cheating?
The two most watched Poker programs always show and comment on live hands.
However, the programs are delayed, so the impact is probably zero.
Re: "which would kill poker TV"
Without real time card display and No Limit Texas Hold 'Em, general interest in poker would collapse.
Let’s presume there was a device somehow involved that would allow her to ‘let someone else into the hand.’ Flop the board shows a pair and a suited connecting club and utterly missed your hand. The only thing you’ve got going for you is a jack. Your opponent is drawing on a double ended straight flush.
Why on earth would the third party be telling her to call on that flop? And missing on the turn, there’s a better than coin flip odds that she’s going to lose.
Maybe she broke the cheating device because it was signaling her every inch of the way to fold. I’ve yet to see a commentator go ‘oh, that was a brilliant move’ - you can see how she called putting herself all in and just didn’t want to give over the cards.
First person to put chips in the pot at each round of betting had the best draw and the worst hand. And both read their opponent properly. If you’re folding every time your opponent is on a good draw, you’re going to lose a heck of a lot of money.
And the accusation of a cheating device pales by comparison to players meeting after the game to return money. That a national level pro did it? Beat me and I’ll stalk you after the game? I hope the big money makes the right decision and keeps him from the cash games.
She handed over the money
That’s not proof she was cheating.
You know, that is a very good point.
The odds were nearly 50-50
It’s curious she didn’t go to the police and report it as a robbery, though.
