Well, I’m not one, my grandfather, my uncle (mom’s brother) myself and my grandson all drive or drove race cars. I’m 65 and the older ones all died of natural causes.

I also have hunted the wild areas of the world from Alaska to Africa, raced motocross, showed cutting horses, and a competitive shooter with shotguns and handguns. I like competition.

“I’m 65 and the older ones all died of natural causes.”

Several thoughts. Not everybody who takes risks is equally talented or strong. Unfortunately, those on the left side of the normal distribution don’t know what their limitations are until it is too late. (Sounds like you’ve had an awesome life.) Nor is everyone smart enough to know what they shouldn’t do. I’m thinking of the guy who jumped off a three-story building wearing a set of bat-like wings that you sometimes see on people doing a hi-lo jump. (Yep, he was a Darwin winner.)

There used to be to be this commercial trying to get people to pick various sports stars for their fantasy team. The star would do something amazing and then say, “Pick me.” One of them dove through the open back windows of a large SUV, clearing both sides in one jump. He’d do a roll and pop up with the “pick me” statement. Another had someone throw a football while he was on the other side of a wall covered with wallboard. He yelled, “Now!” the helper through the football at the wall and he slammed his hand through and caught it. (Always wondered how many takes that took.) My point is there are people who are physically talented and those who simply think they are. You’re probably in the talented normal distribution.
