Indeed. Once seawater gets inside those pipes, they are history. The seawater will start a corrosion process over the entire length contaminated by it. The pipes are now useless. The corrosion will not stop and will compromise the physical integrity of those pipes. This will cause them to blow out with the pressures it has to contain. The Russians will have to put in all new pipe.

My thought was the area where the pipeline damage occurred was not Russian territorial waters, it was Denmark’s territory. A NATO founding member.

Russia would not want NATO to enter the war in Eastern Europe by committing an act of war against a NATO member state.

Secondly, why would Russia damage their own source of wealth?

This was not Russia.
