I heard of it. An acquaintance of mine was deer hunting and saw a nice buck being chased by dogs. Instead of shooting the deer he shot the largest dog.
Let’s just say that a few deer-chasing mongrels have made it to the Happy Hunting Ground on my place. I don’t spend hours and hours of work to have some flea-bitten hounds chase everything away.
I would have done the same thing. The Deer meat would have tasted bad anyway. When we butcher anything on the ranch, we insure they are calm and not running scared, otherwise we wait. Deer, Elk and anything else will taste bad if their adrenaline is pumping at death.
My dad and uncle killed every feral dog they encountered when out hunting. They claimed one wild dog could change a migratory pattern of wildlife ruining the area and forcing the animals into unfamiliar territory that made them less safe too.
