GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — An election worker in the Grand Rapids area was charged with two crimes after a witness reported seeing him place a USB flash drive into an electronic poll book at the close of the Aug. 2 primary, authorities said Wednesday.
The incident had no impact on election results in a Gaines Township precinct, though it was “extremely egregious and incredibly alarming,” Kent County Clerk Lisa Posthumus Lyons said.
“It is a violation of public trust and of the oath all election workers are required to take,” Lyons said.
James Holkeboer was charged with using a computer to commit a crime and falsifying records, the county prosecutor said.
Holkeboer couldn't immediately be reached for comment. It wasn't known if he has a lawyer who could respond to the allegations.
The electronic poll book contains voter registration data, including confidential information, Lyons said.
She said the poll book was not connected to vote tabulation equipment or the internet.
Why stick a USB drive into a polling machine without effect? Perhaps it was password protected. I trust Lisa Posthumus Lyons. Very honorable family, extreme Pro-Life.
No effect.. Nope... Nadda...
Like they will tell the truth. Just like the machines those poll books need to be outlawed. A discovery was made in NY. It seems those poll books make it real easy for on the fly changes to the registry data base. Fake voters and votes can be added as needed.
Well, they did boot that RINO Peter Meijer.
So cheating must of failed.
A Trump endorsement won.
“The incident had no impact on election results”
Are they sure about that.
There are viruses that upload upon insertion of a USB flash drive.
The DOD has a no portable media storage policy without express authorization and only with DOD devices that are monitored closely.
In fact, just try and plug a USB phone charger into a USB port on any DOD device and see how fast you get booted from the network, your device gets quarantined, and you get a visit from CID.
No one plus a USB device into any machine without something happening. Could be a Trojan horse waiting on an election date to take effect. Could be Spyware. Could be a lot of bad things.
“The incident had no impact on election results in a Gaines Township precinct,...” So says the AP (America’s Pravda)
this is why you don’t have electronic polling books, especially ones that can be dynamically updated.
the old way with hardcopy was best. he was probably trying (or succeeding) to boot a foreign os and download the data as a baseline for later voter identity theft, prospects for ballot stuffing, or even outright election vote stealing in the general. i’d like to know what the record structure is in that poll book and whether records/items were modifiable.
Great info.
True, could be something waiting to be “triggered”.
I agree. The old methods are still used in countries that get their votes counted the same evening.
