It’s like this gigantic bet on EVs they’re all making. Of course there are a few on here that will argue till they’re blue in the face, to the contrary, but at the end of the day, the Chinese either control, completely, or have some type of control over a very sizable portion of the raw materials needed for the toy cars.
China’s EV company recently took over the #1 spot, from Tesla, in EV sales. They strangle that material to keep it all for themselves, that’s all folks.

The ‘problem’ is JITM.
Just In Time Manufacturing, an industry-wide process that was started by GM, IIRC, back in the 80’s or 70’s.
Parts suppliers and factory schedulers coordinated so that parts needed to build certain cars were delivered on the day they would be needed, so that huge stockpiles of parts were no longer necessary.
Anybody could have foreseen the troubles that would arise out of supply chain disruptions, union strikes and weather delays.
Add in COVID, idiots in the Whitehouse and foreign control of supplies and you have what we use to call in the Marines as a CLUSTERF*#%+...............

Good idea only an American car company would make, stop production of your most popular cars.
They have no choice. Obama's CAFE standards are making it impossible to keep these cars. Ford is going crazy electric just so they can keep selling Mustangs and F-150s.

My husband has an SRT Charger with hemi with 4 doors. There are lots of versions with 4 doors. I believe that Bloof of Tyrants is making the point that the current Chargers are not "real" Chargers at all. Just as many do not recognize the 1987 Charger as a "real" Charger (despite being 2 door).

Personally, I do not accept the last generation of supposed "Darts" as authentic, as they had so little in common with what Darts were supposed to represent. I also do not accept the 1979 "Chrysler 300" or the 300m or newer base models 300s if they don't ship with 300 hp, as that is what the "300" stood for.

“Am I the only one that is amazed by the stupidity of the CEOs, COOs, Board of Directors, etc that make these asinine decisions?”
No.
“Have to wonder what tactic the puppet masters of the current administration used to sway them to make this decision.”
Either they personally, or their companies, or both, have been bribed. There is NO other explanation, so incredibly stupid is this decision.

Don’t forget the “300” of the old days was gross HP rating.
Knock off about 75 for SAE net.

Well, Dodge/Chrysler just turned Ford and Chevy into the only companies that will supply cop cars/SUVs.
Damn near every department in the country will be driving Explorer’s or Tahoe’s. No more car chases.

A guy who works with police fleets told me the Dodges only last about half the miles of the old Ford Crown Vics due to suspension problems. No substitute for a full frame, I guess.

Did someone at Dodge come up with the brilliant idea to have a car series “Last Call”?

My guess is there will be a huge market for after-market repair parts to keep them going for years........new engines, brake discs, suspensions, fuel systems, air conditioning.................

Some of the old models had 390HP (especially those with the 413 with Ram Jet). Even my base model 383 based '65 non-letter 300 had enough torque to go with its nominal 330HP to be fun, even though the hardtop coupe was not exactly svelte.

The old Crown Vic’s were the ultimate cop car. Was never able to understand why Ford stopped them.
The Chargers, with the right engine, run like hell on a highway, but they have too many blind spots from the pillars. And they just don’t seem as nimble as the CVs were.
But, then again, these are the same decision makers that decide to stop building one of the top selling cop cars in the country for electric fantasies.
As someone wrote earlier, that bribe or threat must have been something else.

The original name of that L-body car was the Dodge Omni 024, from 1979 to 1982 model years; Plymouth’s version was the Horizon TC3.
Last year of that car featured the Shelby GLHS version (just 1,000 made), which apparently could do mid-14s in the quarter mile; they took the Dodge name off the car.

great for regular folks, but most governments tend to hold on to their automobiles for only short periods and replace with new ones ...
