As an alumnus of Columbia, I can say categorically that you are mistaken about predominance of Jews at Columbia. Yes, like just about any New York area school, there is a significant representation of Jews but no where near predominant. NYU might be closer, but I don’t know.

Barnard College of Columbia U. Is said to be one-third Jewish. Maybe that’s where the rep comes from.

NYU is around 25% Jewish. Only the Jewish private schools (and Barnard) have a higher percentage.

Ok “predominance” is the wrong term. There probably is a better way to say it. So I’ll try this way. And see if you agree. Up until 1900 or so the students at columbia were predominantly WASP. After 1900 even as the number of WASP’s declined and WASP’s were no longer predominant, the culture of columbia remained WASP. However, in the 1960’s-1970’s the culture of columbia shifted to being liberal jewish—even though liberal jews were not the majority students—even though liberal jews were not predominant. I have not been to columbia in a decade or more—but its likely now that the culture at columbia has shifted again. this time they have shifted away from being liberal jewish to something else because the left has become ever more stridently anti semetic.
