Why do EV batteries catch fire?

Poor cell quality
Poor battery design
Overcharging

Overcharging sounds as though it can be a problem. I remember, as a child, the family car returning home because mom or grandmom wasn't sure if they'd unplugged the clothes iron. People took that possibly of causing a fire seriously.

I know, the EV charging system isn't supposed to overheat the battery but still...the iron wasn't supposed to cause a fire, either. I try not to forget and leave a home power tool battery charging for hours.
