One thing I am curious about is talk that if an EV takes a side impact, ruining the battery happens often, even from relatively minor impacts, resulting in a totaled car. Not good if you don’t have gap insurance and have a car loan.. I’ve not been able to verify that though. I would think that problem would raise insurance rates for such cars if it is true.

I had not heard of that possibility. A ruined battery pack...possibly an internally ruptured lithium battery and an inferno. Isn't it when one part of the EV battery comes in contact with another part improperly, this when the self-sustaining fire begins?

I should look at a diagram of an EV battery.
