I would give him 24 hour notification to remove or it will be towed to a recovery lot.

I’m trying picture how that would work. There’s a place close by that stores RVs and such, I could take there. But, I can’t just drop it and say, charge the other guy! I’ll have to pay at least two or three months in advance.

It may be what I have to do, just to get it off the property. In the back of my mind is the scenario where I come home and it’s gone. Who took it? And I’m ultimately responsible.

Easiest way to handle it is to give him a reasonable time to remove it. If it’s still there after that time, tow it into the street and leave it. The police will have it towed and if the title is now in his name, will notify him that it’s been impounded. If he fails to claim it, it will be sold at auction.

You won’t have to deal with a storage lot or tow company. The city will tow it as being abandoned.

Whatever you do, you don’t tow it. My suggestion was that you find if there is a towing company nearby that would tow, impound and the buyer can pay to get it released. If buyer doesn’t show up, the towing company is most likely familiar with state laws regarding abandoned, titled property. That’s how they recoup their costs of towing and storage.

Another FRiend wrote, the other option is put it in the street and let the local regulatory process run for getting that moved. Similar to when one sees an abandoned car on the interstate. The state police slap an orange sticker on it, and one to two weeks later it is towed.

It’s basically the same option - just who is corrdinating the towing and the towing company will remove the property faster if you contact than the local authorities. Knowing what you can do in your area is important. Le us know how it turns out.
