Can the GOP Accommodate Two Rock Stars?
American Thinker ^ | 22 Sep, 2022 | Jack Cashill

Before Donald Trump descended the golden escalator at Trump tower in June 2015, the GOP had gone more than a quarter-century without a rock star. Now, it has two, and that is the challenge.

Fresh from his deft Martha’s Vineyard gambit, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis flew into Kansas on Sunday to rally support for Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, now running for governor against incumbent Democrat Laura Kelly.

Saul Alinsky, the acknowledged master of forcing poseurs to honor their own policies, could not have done better than DeSantis. No political stroke in memory has succeeded in exposing liberal hypocrisy quite so effortlessly and effectively. Had the Islanders taken the 50 illegal aliens in, they might have checked DeSantis’s move and saved a little face, but they didn’t. They lived up to their most ludicrous stereotypes, calling in the National Guard and deporting the hapless Venezuelans to some sterile Army base on the mainland. It will be years before “Martha’s Vineyard” is anything but a template for a meme or a punch line to a joke.

Both Schmidt and U.S. Senator Roger Marshall had fun with Martha’s Vineyard in the speeches they gave preceding DeSantis’s. The SRO crowd at the Olathe (O-lay-the) Civics Center ate it up. When DeSantis took center stage, the thousands in attendance were primed. They surged to their feet and roared their appreciation. If it wasn’t clear before this past week, it was clear to everyone in Olathe. Ron DeSantis has arrived.

SNIP

That said, he did not mention Trump in his speech. Schmidt has also been tagged as something of a moderate, but one would not have guessed that from his intense and impressively disciplined speech. He did not mention Trump either.

Better two than none. The DemocRATs are trying to play them against each other because that is what they do.

Desantis better learn his place.

Kari Lake could be the third rock star.

I was for trump before De Santis became such a good Governor. Now, given trumps age and the controversies surrounding him, I am a firm De Santis fan.

If either Trump or DeSantis wins the primary for 2024, I will be a very happy Conservative.

As far as I can tell, DeSantis hasn’t said anything about running in 2024. In fact, a lot of what he’s doing is to cement his support in Florida for 2022. Unlike Trump, he has to win in November.

There’s Ted Nugent, but I can’t think of another one. Clapton hates immigrants, but he’s not American.

I think after the election he’ll say he’s not running until 2028. That’s actually perfect for him. He’ll finish governor in 2026 and he’ll have two years to campaign all over the country. If Trump doesn’t run for whatever reason, then that might change everything.

There is no "controversy" that hasn't been manufactured by the left.

If you don't think they'll invent new controveries for tarring and feathering DeSantis, similiarly non-existent ones created by them, you're incredibly naive.

I like them both, but know Trump can fight these cretins successfully. Until he makes a decision not to run, I'll stick wih him, as should all of us.

Exactly. Let them get away with it with Trump, and they’ll just do the same to the next guy. ‘Show me the man, and I’ll show you the crime.’

Having a bunch of MAGA stars is like going to a concert with several excellent bands, but there is always a headliner. While others open for Desantis as headliner. Desantis would open for Trump. We need more stars, not less.

DeSantis/Lake 2024

I was a huge Trump supporter, as my posts here show, but I feel he has left me behind, just as he did the Jan 6 supporters, with his continued support of the vaccines.

Injections of millions of people with completely ineffective dangerous medicines may not be your number one issue, but it is, and will be, mine. Based on what we know now Trump is either compromised by bug pharma, or too selfish to admit his mistake, which continues to risk the lives of countless people.

I believe that DeSantis has already stated that if Trump runs then he will not run.

Nah, you didn't.

Desantis better be careful. He is pissing a lot of us off. He better make his intentions clear that he will not challenge Trump IN ANY WAY. By not doing that he is encouraging election fraud deniers and crazies like you.
