Our neighbor has one. It cost $6,500 to purchase and install the 220 volt type for her Tesla.

That’s a lot of capital to amortize.
I wonder if it will bring any added pricing when the house is sold?

To add a 220v circuit should not cost that much. A 40amp 220v curcuit would require 8/2 awg wire which is around $2/ft. The 40a breakers would be about $20/per( 2 needed ).

I am still not sure why this is so much $$$$$$$$$?

How many amps?

30 amp 220v will charge a model Y at 25 miles per hour.

Which is like filling a car with gas at one gallon per hour.

Costs vary depending on where you live, which station you purchase, and whether it is hardwired to your home or portable. The national average cost range is between $1,000 and $2,500, with most people paying around $1,200 for a 240-volt outlet, charger, and wall-mounted system. The low cost for this project is $300 for a replacement Level 1 charger for use with an existing 120-volt outlet. The project’s high cost is $4,500 for a Level 2 charger designed for 2 cars with a 240-volt outlet, pedestal mount, and circuit panel upgrade.

It cost $6,500 to purchase and install the 220 volt type for her Tesla.

At the current cost of 87 octane here in HELLINOIS, that's 1,629 gallons of gas.

Economically, it doesn't make sense when factoring in the $70,000 Tesla, which is 17,544 gallons of gas.
