George VI was proof that often times the best leaders are the reluctant ones.
That is one of the advantages of a hereditary monarchy. Whilst there is an obvious risk of the position being filled by an idiot or scumbag, those risks are also inherent with elected leaders.
But you will never, ever, get a humble, unambitious and unassuming person as head of state in a republic.
