Having a hard time understanding why a dead person would be sent to jail but, on the bright side, they did bond him out, presumably to attend his own funeral.
Or am I reading the headline wrong?

You’re not alone. I could only decode the headline after reading the story, and even then it’s incredibly confusing who is being referenced.
Are there no longer editors who hand the copy back to the reporter and say “go re-write this and if you hand me another article written in gibberish you can clean out your desk?”
