Racing Jets at Reno?

Who thought that would be a good idea?

Agree, not enough air there.

Jets have been racing at Reno for 20 years. AFAIK, this is the first accident the jet class has ever had.

The jets are exciting to watch, but of the six classes, IMHO the Unlimiteds are the MOST exciting!

The beauty, sound and fury of P-51 Mustangs, R4360 powered Hawker Sea Furies, a Super Corsair, a Russian Yak 11, and several other highly modified WW II aircraft racing each other at 100 feet above the ground a quarter mile in FRont of the Reno grandstand at 500 mph must be seen and heard to appreciate!

“Google” a video of a past Reno Gold Cup race - it won’t don’t do the “real thing” justice, but you can get a small taste of the sound and fury of it all by watching the video.

World’s fastest, most exciting motor sport!

Actually the jets have a pretty good safety records. The old war birds not so much.

Full disclosure I have lived very near of the final turn at the Stead Airport/Reno Air Races for 22 years. Aircraft safety is a paramount concern to me.
