So, what's the point of your slide? It should be obvious - even to the most draft-avoiding, military service-shirking, fainting violet civilians, that our armed forces need large areas of mostly barren land to train to fight, to maneuver fast aircraft, to test long-range weapons, and to blow things up.

I love the "in California, the military owns an astonishing 1.7 million acres of land..". 29 Palms? Fort Irwin? China Lake? Desert. Nasty, uninhabitable fiercely hot during the day, freezing at night, sandstorm central desert.The only highly marketable base I know of is Camp Pendleton and that forms the only not-completely-concreted-over and not overpriced/with original flora and fauna portion of Southern California still left.
