There is something not said here. The road from the turnoff up to Camp Bird mine is a 2 wheel drive road. Past the mine it is 4x4. Now it is narrow in a couple of areas but in comparison to other shelf roads, it’s a dream drive. Inattention or meeting someone going too fast, but this section is not a slip and fall drive.

I have yet to go 4x4’ing in my Jeep. Hope soon. Just lifted it 3” (max before you have to mess with axles and stuff) and put max size tires on it. Stock otherwise. Lots of stuff has been replaced. Sheesh. Love being able to see over most of traffic. The Toyo AT-III’s (awesome tires) make a slight hum but most wouldn’t notice. Trail rated. Yeah baby.

We went over Engineer Pass with my wife’s stock Yukon XL a few years ago.
Looking at the Road to Bird Camp, it looks like my Miata could have made it.
It looks like Selfies were involved, here.
Yes, went there on Google Earth and it is a freeway compared to the road to my mountain property. I have had to drag trees behind my jeep coming back down from my place when it is iced up because the switchbacks so steep.
Something unusual must have happened causing this event here. The road is not that bad.
GMTA. My first thought
