How Robert Mueller Shredded the FBI’s Credibility
WSJ ^ | September 14, 2022 | Thomas J Baker

Posted on 09/16/2022 11:58:23 AM PDT by Pelham

...Mr. Mueller resolutely set about to change the “culture” of the FBI. That’s the word he used. He was going to make the bureau into an intelligence agency, or in his repeated terminology, an “intelligence driven” organization. Unintended consequences followed. The organization I had served for 33 years would undergo a cultural change in subsequent years, culminating in the ugly disaster of Crossfire Hurricane, the fruitless but disruptive investigation of the Trump campaign and Russia.

Mr. Mueller had worked with FBI special agents in Boston and San Francisco, but he didn’t know the FBI’s culture or how it functioned. He also displayed disdain for the special agents in charge of each of the FBI’s 50-plus field offices.

Mr. Mueller didn’t understand the FBI’s office-of-origin system, which has been in use for nearly a century. On a typical case, an office of origin would run things, sending out leads to other field offices who’d track them down and report back. In the case of the 9/11 attacks, the logical office of origin would have been the New York or Washington field office. Both had experienced international squads...

But Mr. Mueller wanted centralization. He wanted all information to run through FBI headquarters, which would make all the decisions. Mr. Mueller’s predecessor, Louis Freeh, who started his career as a field agent, strongly believed in empowering the field offices. Not Mr. Mueller, who accelerated centralization; he also believed special agents in charge presided over their territories like dukes. His words.

Penttbom would thus become the first case in FBI history run from headquarters. It set a bad precedent, which would yield poisonous fruit in the Hillary Clinton email investigation and then in the Russian collusion fiasco, when a small clique at headquarters called all the shots.

This is a good article but it does not include the many ways Mueller and Comey corrupted and destroyed the FBI.

The article does not include the botched anthrax investigation and Steven Hatfill, the FBI pressuring people to commit perjury in the Senator Stevens case and others, The FBI failures in the Dr. Hassan investigation and the many other failures.

Mueller and Comey corrupted the FBI. Wray is continuing the job.

It’s pretty much the culmination of what James Burnham described in his “The Managerial Revolution” all the way back in 1941.

“Burnham argued that in the short period since the First World War, a new society had emerged in which a social group or class of “managers” had waged a “drive for social dominance, for power and privilege, for the position of ruling class.”

Burnham helped Buckley found National Review in 1955.

“Mueller worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in Boston in the 1980s and was the FBI director when the agency was accused of protecting mob leaders such as Bulger.”

“Lady Livingstone and her 800 raw FBI files is what began the ruin of the FBI and DOJ”

I had to look that one up. I’d forgotten about that case.

To be fair the article is about what led to the FBI becoming a tool for bad actors. It’s not trying to be a comprehensive list of its problems.

The gist of the article is that the big problems began when Director Mueller scrapped the FBI’s historic policy of promoting from within.

I thought that Mueller was faking it when he testified. He is a trained liar.

Watching Mueller testify in 2019 about the “Russia-gate investigation,” I realized, like Joe Biden, he’s a corrupt, demented old patsy who probably can’t think beyond what pudding he will have after his nap.

He seemed shockingly out of touch with reality.

But he could have framed Trump on the Russiagate charges, and he did not.

Thanks.

I read some of the stuff on this fellow and by him.

Then throw in some Orwell writings to really keep one awake at night.

D*MN.

Two months too months to help the October-November discussions.
Or was that publication date also (deliberately) set to be after the Nov elections?

“I thought that Mueller was faking it when he testified. He is a trained liar.”

At that level, they are all trained liars for decades, and they hate us and our leaders 24/7.
