Attacking the Rule of Law

One of the most dystopic aspects of our current politics is that this ideal is under deliberate attack.

One of the most hallowed traditions of the U.S. republic is a commitment to the ideal of the Rule of Law. Therefore, one of the most dystopic aspects of our current politics is that this ideal is under deliberate attack.

The list of assaults is long and varied. Consider:

-Biden's cancelation of student loan debt and the EPA rule recently struck down by the Supreme Court, both of which are instances of the habitual efforts of the Executive to seize upon supposed statutory ambiguities to claim vast powers never contemplated by Congress, and to use this to transfer resources to favored constituencies.

-The treatment of the January 6 defendants, who are being deprived of constitutional rights; subjected to harsh punishments for trivial offenses; and railroaded by politically motivated prosecutors, judges, and juries.

In these cases, and in a host of others, it is not believable that the contempt for the Rule of Law is an accident or oversight. It is an essential feature, intended to demonstrate that the Rule of Law no longer has substance, that, in the classic words of A Man for All Seasons, the laws have been cut down, and we are naked to the winds that now do blow.

So how did we get here?

SNIP

Less often discussed is the nature of opposition to the Rule of Law. One automatically thinks of the struggles against despotism, and despots do indeed resist, because what is the fun of being a despot if one has to bow to the law?

Despots identify more with the criminals than with law-abiding citizens. That is why so many despots empty the prisons and then use that empty space to jail their political opposition.

In the Post Constitutional United States, we currently have a two tiered justice system. One for most of us and another for the favored people.
These favored people are members of the correct race, creed & color, members of the proper political party(s) and correct thinkers.

That along with the complete rejection of all Judeo-Christian teachings are just another sign of a failed nation & empire.

Americans should have known that the Rule of Law was in trouble when the Democrats started braying about it, years ago.

Now, they bray about democracy.

Obama led the way when he made dictatorial moves on the auto industry and favored the unions over the legal rights of other debt holders. The snowball is picking up weight as it rolls threatening to destroy the rule of law in our Nation. In truth the ROL has been suspended already and is on life support.

In his lifetime the prophet Habakkuk saw the rule of law being trampled - "the law is powerless, justice never goes forth and perverse judgments proceeds"; so, he questioned why God didn't do anything about it. God does answer Habakkuk and let's him know that He will send the Babylonians to utterly destroy, Judah.

Habakkuk 1:2-4
O LORD, how long shall I cry,
And You will not hear?
Even cry out to You, “Violence!”
And You will not save.
Why do You show me iniquity,
And cause me to see trouble?
For plundering and violence are before me;
There is strife, and contention arises.
Therefore the law is powerless,
And justice never goes forth.
For the wicked surround the righteous;
Therefore perverse judgment proceeds.

Other than trump who else got “raided”..?? It has been reported subpoena’s were handed out but that is a long ways from the “raided” scenario everybody is throwing about.
