Alabama told a federal judge that it could soon be ready to use a new, untried execution method called nitrogen hypoxia to carry out a death sentence.
The disclosure came Monday at a court hearing over inmate Alan Miller’s request to block his scheduled Sept. 22 execution by lethal injection. Miller maintains that prison staff lost paperwork he returned in 2018 requesting nitrogen hypoxia, an execution method that the state has authorized but never used. […]
Nitrogen hypoxia is a proposed execution method in which death would be caused by forcing the inmate to breathe only nitrogen, thereby depriving him or her of the oxygen needed to maintain bodily functions. […]
Nitrogen makes up 78% of the air inhaled by humans and is harmless when inhaled with oxygen. The theory behind the execution method is that changing the composition of the air to 100% nitrogen would cause the inmate to pass out and then die from lack of oxygen. …

why get fancy. I vote for bullet to the head. Effective, and inexpensive.
Sounds fine. I’ve heard it’s not like suffocating at all.
NASA Ames lost a technician who was testing a mask that was supposed to be hooked up to air instead of pure nitrogen. It was so quick he didn’t even have time to remove the mask.
On pay-per-view.
All proceeds to victim's family
I knew someone who offed himself with helium.
Put the mask on, went to sleep and never woke up.
The gummint’s been confiscating fentanyl; just use some of that and let him fly into eternity.
Fine. Put a plastic bag over their head. Secure it with a zip tie. Introduce nitrogen till dead. No special room. No special chair. Just be done with it.
And carry the sentence out immediately.
Humane. More humane treatment than their victims got.
Cheap.
Quick.
I’m for the most painless death possible.
I mean, they are about to face the Ultimate Judge, nothing we could do could compare to that.
This is a strange and confusing "theory" to the AP.
They should squeeze “allegedly” in there somewhere.
You’ll feel a little dizzy, pass out after about 2 1/2 minutes, cardiac arrest 2-3 minutes afterwards. About as painless as you can get.
I’ve always wondered why this is so complicated.
Car exhaust in a closed room. Done.
Charcoal fire in a closed room. Done.
Among the other things.
We jest but we may end up in a Soylent Green New Deal where they actually pass out such an exit medication for all of us...
or a baseball bat with nails in it is OK by me.
It isn't a theory. It is fact. Not only the incident you mentioned, but farming accidents where the victim inhales too high of a concentration of nitrogen. Manure pits, spreading NH4 when the wind is blowing the wrong way and other occupational dangers of agriculture involving nitrogen abound.
>>where they actually pass out such an exit medication for all of us...
I actually hope I have an option like that when the time comes - watching friends and family suffer for those final 3-4 weeks with cancer eating them away from the inside out is enough to want me to make sure that is not my fate.
There are some crimes so hideous, the killers need execution in the same manner to be a real punishment…
