I’m no fan of bioweapons, expecially not given the sheer number of leaks of cholera, anthrax and other weaponised biomaterials from *** Russian controlled*** biolabs. Over five decades. Most of which were hushed up.

I have no problem with biolabs in principle, though, because biolabs and bioweaponry are NOT synonymous.

The UK has over 600 biolabs. They have all sorts of nasties. Oddly enough, almost all are used for banal things like researching diseases. In fact, at one point only 8 were registered locations for “bioweapons” research and most of them were looking specifically at detection, diagnostics and treatments NOT at the creation of such substances.

Ukraine has 46 - far fewer than the UK. Maybe we can expect 2 at most to be of the level of bioweapons research. Even then, if even one of those was being used to develop biological weapons to target the nonexistent pure Russian genome, I’ll eat my hat. The Kremlin flew a completely wild, hair-brained theory out with absolutely no evidence to back it up, and people like Tucker Carlson and MTG just lapped it up right away.

The Virology Reference Laboratory in Kyiv held samples of some of the most infectious diseases on the planet, but used them for genetic analysis - there are numerous global initiatives that are doing this and the labs are spread around the world for a bunch of practical reasons, so these activities were no secret to any country that is participating in the work. The Kyiv facility was inspected at least three times a year, both by the WHO and by other international agencies. The hush-hush was not about what those labs were doing, so much as what else was the American military doing there in top secret.

So what did Russia do given that it knew exactly where this highly dangerous, and yet completely secure, demilitarized civilian biolab that might possibly be involved in creating a targeted bioweapon to exterminate Russians (but not Ukrainians) in Kyiv was?

Oh - they tried to bomb the area around it. Which risked a serious compromise of its safety protocols.

For a country that was so terribly fearful of any pathogen leak from a Ukrainian biolab that they felt the need to invade (we know that’s not true at all, they only came up with that causus belli after the Trumptards kept making a big song and dance about biolabs), they seemed remarkably unconcerned about the risk if the building had been hit by their own rockets, and the highly lethal stuff in it had gone airborne.
