This firing may actually have been a ‘jump the gun’ mistake.
I get the impression, this lady was not defending pedophiles, but had gotten caught up in today’s trend to never call things by their proper name. If this is what happened, it is unfortunate, as at age 55, she was getting close to retirement. Why am I second guessing that school board?

Because her class was reading The Crucuble by Arthur Miller.
The Crucible is a novel about events that lead up to the Salen Witch Trials. So, it could be this English teacher was trying to slow kids down from quickly labeling someone else’s behavior. All well and good intellectually, but this is NOT the time to even look as though you are ‘sticking up for’ pedophiles in any way.

Maybe you missed this part:

…The El Paso Independent School District declined to formally answer questions on what led to the classroom discussion but Daniel Call, a school board trustee, said he believed Parker was pretending to advocate a position to challenge her students and prepare them to read the play.

One week later he suddenly changed his mind.

‘Any reasonable person that heard what the seven trustees heard would’ve voted to terminate Amber Parker,’ Call said to KFoxTV.

Explaining his u-turn, Call said: ‘There were more things that the public may not know about that was included on the closed findings.’…

It is wrong for a teacher to attempt to trick students into a thought experiment rather than state the facts, read the text and then have a discussion.

I have always had a logical and literal mind.   My Dad was a computer programmer starting before I was born as a keypunch operator after WWII and retiring as a Senior Computer Systems Analyst in the late Seventies.   That logical mind was handed down to me.

I had some bad situations in school when my teachers gave duplicitous instructions or statements.   A kid mistrusts a teacher that will lie to them.   I made "F's" through school because I didn't doing schoolwork.   I failed Seventh grade and flunked out of College after the first semester.

I didn't turn around my poor study habits until I enlisted in the USAF and generally aced all of my exams in Basic Electronics, SETS tech schools and my later on with my CDC's with the help of my wife.

Teachers should should just teach content without any bewildering psychological new-age tricks.

Nope.
The firing was just right and probably long overdue.
Left to me she'd go to jail too.

Thank you.

Doubly ironic that she too could be swept up in a rush to judgement when she too is possibly innocent and perhaps even doing a good job.

I loved my more dramatic teachers, in all subjects, who would make controversial statements to challenge the students.

We will see the truth better soon hopefully.
