You mention the one thing royalty is supposed to do but doesn’t and that is deliver value. What has the british royal family done for anyone?
Collectively, the various royals sit on dozens, perhaps over 100, charity boards. I don't know how useful that is, but lending their prestige to charities for fund-raising is one of their PR roles.
However, I don't think they even have much say in choosing their charities. They might be able to pick a few they like, but most are probably chosen for them.
