My rule IMHO changes....

I don't think you like baseball.

15-20 seconds is going to drive many pitchers nuts, and batters having to be “set in the box” by 8 seconds?

Too bad for them. It'll improve the fan experience because they will put the ball into play more often. We don't want to watch a four hour chess match between the batter and the pitcher.

Whate are they talking about? The average length of a basketball game is 2 1/2 hours and a pro football game is 3 1/2 hours and they are supposed to be 60 minutes.

Watching football now, with all the rules, replays, do overs is like watching a game played by lawyers.

If baseball wants to speed up, get rid of the video replays.

The 800lb gorilla in the room is commercials are too long and players like Joey Gallo won’t hit to the opposite field or lay down a bunt. So let’s not fix the real problems and act like politicians and go for a quick “fix”

Cody Bellinger won’t do that either and he’s below the Mendoza line again.

Freddie Freeman hits to the opposite field a lot even though they put the shift on him and he’s among the top hitters.

Could not live down the laughter and derision of that video of the entire Kentucky Derby running in the time between two pitches?

Come on it is slow and boring as it, speed up the action.

I’m totally against banning the “shift”.

Learn how to bat around it! Bunts work. Slap and spray the ball around.

But because so much emphasis is on the home run and batters are too one-skilled, they want to ban the shift. Pffft!

Bring back the beanball

As Don Drysdale once said, when you are intentionally walking a batter, just bean him. It saves 3 throws.

Ok.
So how much of a shift is legal?
You always shaded for different hitters.

I am not a huge fan of the shift but if you want to play your 3ed baseman as a middle fielder between 2nd and 1st thats up to you. If the batter can pull it down the 3rd base line, oh well.
Banning it seems silly.

One would think that having reached the highest level in your sport that most batters could “hit ‘‘em where they ain’t “ given the big gaps in the defenses. But today’s players can’t even lay down a bunt in fair territory.

Since most Americans don’t know what defensive shifts are, no one really gives a damn

MLB is just too white to exist

Hit it where they ain’t.

Precisely.
But in re MLB generally, silly tinkering like this won't stop its pandering cliff dive.

The volunteers this year were brutal on balls and strikes.

Amen !
The strike zones of some of those umps seemed to change minute by minute, with many calls not being even close.

Exactly. Banning the shift is dumb.

How many current baseball players can you name? Even most people won’t recognize the name Aaron Judge or Shohei Ohtani.

Exactly, it’s like banning blitzing in football.

when i played softball with my brothers, we would bait the batters by having me play a deep short stop while my brother pete who was faster than anything would cover long hits... batters would always try so hard they would pop out... great psychological tactic...

yes we were burned occasionally, but more often than not, came out on top.

save the shift!

Quote
Faded appeal with fans..

The day I stopped watching games of my former favorite MLB team, was the day some kneeled..

Their pace of play was sometimes ridiculously bad before then.
But it became unwatchable on that day.

Unwatchable ever since.

They didn’t lose me with lockouts,strikes,steroids,pace of play,etc..

They won’t win me back with pace of play either.

But I am not their target audience now.

Can someone explain why defensive shifts are a problem for the game?
I always thought they were interesting.

```````````````````````````````````````````
Very interesting to me to watch left handed batter Matt Carpenter roll a bunt double down the third base line, driving in two runs, while the entire defensive team is to the right side of second base.
