If anyone believes that that was a KABOOM answer, we have lowered our standards.

Precisely!

The reporter may have feigned slight amusement or embarrassment, in an attempt to "frame" Lake as "overly aggressive," "hurtful," or "offensive," but to characterize this encounter in such words ("blown aback") is misleading.
