Sams here in Indiana is typically a store in need of some serious janitorial service manned by black ghetto types. The one we used to go to closed up a couple years ago (no surprise on that).
Employees at Costco seem happy to be there. Tech at the tire store told me the money and benefits are good. In our area, there’s simply no comparison between the two brands.
We’re going to get BJs soon, will be interested to see where they line up.
BJ’s failed in Columbus, Ohio a few years ago. Employees were rude and didn’t care. The worst was security at the door going through your entire purchase. I told the Manager that was the last time I would ever shop at a BJ’s - he didn’t care.
You just described the nearest Sam’s to us and why we stopped shopping there.

Since the pandemic, we don’t shop there, we go online and use their same day delivery.
Beware of their substitutions. They might substitute expensive steaks if out of hamburger. We tag everything “No Substitution!
We don’t order until a few minutes after 10 am to get the best deal ever, their roasted Deli chicken for $5.99. It feeds us lunch that day and one or two more lunches and a couple main courses at dinner.
