21 minute video but worth your time methinks . Sad ...
Time passes. Things change.
Gonna be a bunch of pissed off drinkers...
Summery…..
The long shut-down, current high energy costs where businesses do not have a price cap (like home owners do).
Energy costs up almost 400% . Send more $$$ to Ukraine ; sanction Russia ! Duh !
It’s very sad. The British/Scottish/Irish pubs are not bars where people go to just drink all evening (or day). They are small places to eat simple meals, to gather with friends and neighbors, many times with traditional music, and mostly family-friendly. To lose this activity will be devastating to communities.
Few communities in England are even English anymore.
I spent many evenings, and some mornings, in English pubs. They are not compatible with Indian and African clientele.
First, the COVID lockdowns crippled the pubs.
Now the rising utility prices due to the energy crisis looks to finish them off.
I , too. Visited England 6 times touring the country between 1976-1983 . With the exception of Cornwall saw virtually everywhere else right up to the Scottish border . Fond memories of the pubs . In the countryside - with fires burning - and patron’s dogs resting alongside their chairs - quaffing pints of best bitter with the locals . Give the Yank a pint !
That was a nice rant on the situation by a Brit (and only two minutes long). Over here in the Unites States, he’d be a big time MAGA supporter. In fact, I think I saw him at the Trump rally last night.
Bar maids. I dated one. Had a Sheena Easton look to her. Every pub seemed to have one.
It’s more than that. Pubs in the UK are more than bars are here. Different culture. I hope this wakes up the Limeys to what they’ve created.
He is one of my favorites. YouTube is always deplatforming him. He does the best rants out there.
That is a real shame.
When I used to go visit the UK, one of the things I most enjoyed was a visit to a local pub in London.
Not a Tourist Trap, but a real one.
Now, they are disappearing...
It’s England - there will be a bunch of drinkers that won’t get pissed. :))
I wasn’t too fond of the cask ale. First time in my life I ever left a full beer behind! That and the mashed peas.
But the rest of the experience was great!
