If you want to see a really good & recent movie on the evils of communism, watch Mr. Jones:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6828390/
It is about the Ukranian famine of the early 1930s and the commie-symp journalists who tried to cover it up.
Another good one, but older & more obscure, is The Inner Circle with Tom Hulce:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103838/
Mr. Jones is excellent. Among other things, it finally gives Walter Duranty his due. It should be mandatory viewing in all journalism schools. I’ve not seen The Inner Circle but will add it to my watchlist. Some other good films on communism, in no particular order:
Balloon (2018, Michael Herbig, dir., Kanopy)
The Way Back (2010; Peter Weir, dir.; not the more recent film with the same name; this one has Ed Harris, Colin Farrell and a young Saoirse Ronan)
The Tower (2012, Christian Schwochow, dir., deals with East Germany/Stasi)
The Death of Stalin (2017; Armando Iannucci, dir.)
Dear Comrades! (2020; Andrey Konchalovskiy)
Ashes in the Snow (2018)
Within the Whirlwind (2009)
Chernobyl (2019; tv miniseries)
First They Killed My Father (2019; deals with Cambodia)
