In 2015 I was talked into buying a new Prius. I thought it would be my final car, a nice low budget car for a widow with a limited income. I put 30,000 miles on it in three years.
Then I started thinking about how much it was going to cost to replace the battery when it runs out of juice. At the time three years ago the cost was estimated to be around $6000. I thought my car won’t be worth $6000 when the battery quits so I will not be able to sell the car or buy a new battery.
So I traded it in for a Toyota RAV4. I have car payments but I can afford the car payment. And a new battery might be $200.
The friend (from CA) who talked me into buying the Prius doesn’t speak to me anymore because I traded that car in. Well maybe that was the final straw. There might’ve been other things that caused her not to want to talk to me anymore.
What happens to a Prius when the battery is weak? Can’t you just drive it on the gas engine? You still have 98 horsepower for a 3000 pound car which doesn’t sound unworkable.
