That movie was about child abuse and child labour. 4 adults laying around in filth, all day while the bucket kid has to support them with a paper route.

Then when the kid gets a ticket, all of a sudden Ed Brown can walk again.

You have never seen the movie, yes Charlie had a paper route, but his mother worked at a laundry shop to help support Charlie's grandparents.

The grandparents were indeed lazy bums. The author Roald Dahl had a wicked, irreverent sense of humor. Always got a chuckle out of the Alfred Hithcock Presents episode Dahl wrote in which Barbara Bel Geddes’ character murders her husband by bludgeoning him with a leg of lamb... and then serves said leg of lamb to the cops investigating his murder.
