A couple of decades ago, my grandparents drove from NC to the Grand Canyon.
They stayed about 10 minutes and lost interest.

(I cannot be sure for certain, but in my personal opinion I am certain that I am not sure.)

Clark Griswold had the right idea. Take a quick look safely away from the edge and get the heck out of there. Make sure you stop at the gift shop on the way out.

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either opinion, or satire, or both.)

We used to refer to those as “Texas Tourist stops” because it seemed like lots of folks from Texas just wanted to see all the points they were “supposed” to see, take a quick pic and drive on to the next one.

One of my favorite Flintstones episodes was the time they went on vacation and decided to go to the Grand Canyon. After driving all that way, all there was was just a tiny stream of water with a sign next to it that said “Grand Canyon”.
Fred: “Is that it? We drove all that way for this little stream?”
Barney: “Well, it might not look like much now, but they say in a few million years, it’s going to be really something!”
