Friday afternoon, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of a visitor who fell from the rim west of the Bright Angel Point Trail on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, KTLA sister station KTVX reports.

Responding rangers located the body of a 44-year-old man approximately 200 ft. below the rim. The visitor was reportedly off the trail when he accidentally fell off the edge.

The man has not yet been identified, and additional details have not yet been released.

Rangers say visitors should remain on designated trails and walkways, staying a safe distance from the edge of the rim.

Any idiot can walk right up and fall over the side.

Natural selection.

This is usually about when the bad stuff happens.

I can guarandamntee you those aren't my feet. In fact, I probably wouldn't even be in yelling distance of that edge.

I guess I wouldn’t see the GC as a place to commit suicide. It’d be death by a thousand bumps.

I’ve never been to the GC but I’ve been to the Canyonlands in Utah. My three young kids with me the first time I was there. I didn’t mess around with them. We kept good distances. But even if they weren’t there, there would have been no getting too close.

The desert is unforgiving.

Hiking in 100 degree plus temps is usually not a good idea. Especially so if you are 59 years old.

I had one harrowing call on a south-facing hill in 90+ temps. Ran out of water, no shade, blazing hot sun. Scared me to death. That was the end of high-temp hikes for me.
