A New Zealand news anchor fired back at a viewer who she said has repeatedly complained about her traditional face tattoos.
Oriini Kaipara, who co-hosts the political current affairs show "Newshub Nation," shut down the remarks from a viewer who she said emailed her and described her tattoos as “offensive and aggressive looking” and a “bad look.” The viewer’s comments come after Kaipara made history last year as the first person with a moko kauae, a cultural tattoo worn by Māori women, to anchor a prime-time news program.
“Please refrain from complaining further, and restrain your cultural ignorance and bias for another lifetime, preferably in the 1800s,” Kaipara wrote in an email to the viewer, according to a screenshot of the message posted to her Instagram stories on Wednesday.
Kaipara, who has had the tattoo on her chin since 2019, also condemned the discrimination and harassment that people with the traditional moko marking endure.
The Māori people are an Indigenous and Polynesian group in New Zealand. In Māori culture, the sacred chin tattoo symbolizes a transition from girl to adulthood.

That your King James Bible means nothing to them, so your statement is null and void concerning them.
Again the point is they are the CHOICE of the WEARER. They were NOT born with it having no choice.
Thus I can judge all I want.
Concur. The first thought that occurred to me was, “Is she good at her job?” That’s shorthand for not judging a book by its cover. In a meritocracy, performance counts. She’s in New Zealand where those tattoos are probably acceptable to the general public.

Dude, you’re firing at the wrong person because I never made the statement you’re referring to!
The British as you call them are a collection of vikings, and Normans as well as Anglo Saxons and native Brits. A collection of people who took over people. They mingled and the strongest took over those near.
Your history knowledge is crap. Its Naive. And its assuming that the world started a few hundred years ago. Do some research. Think for once. How did the Scots get there? How did the Welsh get there? who was before them? Who are the Brits? Use your mind.
Human biology exists at a very early stage in our ancestry. Our oldest ancestors depended on facial recognition and communication. We detect human faces and can identify and differentiate them before we can add two plus two or say “mama”. To alter our face is to alter ability to attract the opposite sex, to read emotions, to see someone as friend or foe. Culture is a trait that is not nearly as ingrained as innate knowledge. Culture is learned. Facial recognition is in our DNA, its there before we are born.
Like female genital mutilation that is also cultural, facial mutilation or discoloring, is also problematic. Even if a quaint tribe does it in indigenous costume for the tourists.
If you’re trying to justify what the U.S. government did to the Native Americans who existed in this country at that time, or what the British did to the Scots, Irish, Welsh, and the rest of the people in countries they colonized, please hold your breath.
Where do you get off thinking that being conquered has rules. The only rules are whether your women are comely and useful. And if you can be useful slaves. If not your all dead. This is the way of the world in human history, in animal history going back to the beginning of time. If you exist today, Than your ancestors were part of the conquerors.
LOL!! The majority of my DNA is British and northwestern Europe. The second highest is Sweden and Denmark, third Germanic Europe, and fourth Scotland, so I’m one of those mongrels that you speak of. I’m an old lady, and I’m certainly not naive. I’ve been a student of all periods of history for well over 40 years, and continue to learn more about the world, its history, and people each day.
For example, did you know that recent DNA studies have shown that some tribes in the Amazon, for example, Brazil’s Surui people, share a common ancestor with indigenous Australians and New Guineans. A large number of people got where they ended up by migrating...not always warring, and killing each other off. A lot of it was done by crossing a land bridge called Beringia, also known as the Bering Strait Land Bridge that formed toward the latter part of the Ice Age, that connected their native home in Eurasia to modern-day Alaska. This DNA study, along with others have caused a big stir, because the main theory has always been that the first humans in North America had come over in one big wave, but these new DNA studies, have knocked that theory down. Nobody knows how many people came via Beringa, or how many waves they came in.
I don’t find that tattooing attractive but it’s her face and her culture. None of my business.
Ok
You’ve ended our exchange about your choice is words and I agree their comments were mean but hey you know where you’re posting
For the record I wrote she was handsome but I didn’t like the ink culture or not
I don’t care for ink much even though my left shoulder is covered in earned ink
Snort...GMTA!
