Many Democrats are generally smart people who don’t understand human nature or economics.
They are (to a man) emotionally stunted and filled with hostility.
I don’t think that people like that are very smart. I have some relatives like that.... ‘educated’, but overly emotional and overtly hostile to anyone who doesn’t agree with them

Depends on the meaning of smart. They appear to be quite ignorant with all of their stupid ideas.
The problem is it is impossible to have discussions anymore. The Left has no intellectual honesty. Many of them will mouth various principles eg rational inquiry, a marketplace of ideas, etc etc but will then turn a deliberate blind eye toward any inconvenient facts.
If an irrefutable fact comes from a source they don’t like, they just attack the source.
If they can’t attack the source, they will just pretend. They will not budge one inch on anything unless and until the propaganda arm of the Democrat Party tells them to. Then they have no problem admitting what was yesterday taboo to even mention.
