I drove around Braddock a few months go, just to see what is there. (I live in the eastern part of Pittsburgh, so it wasn’t far away.) The whole town is tiny, less than a square mile. Even the main street, Braddock Avenue, has very few open businesses, mostly bars, etc. I only saw one newish building, and that was government funded, with a politician’s name on it, purposed for some community organizations, but it seemed to be not fully occupied.

Now let’s see the video on the good side of town. Every old northeastern mill town has a bad side. Cherry picking brushes right up against dishonesty IMHO. There’s plenty to go after this guy about, we don’t need to propagandize about it.

You just don’t understand the issue. The issue is he’s the ONE who is cherry picking saying it was rebuilt and not being transparent about it just like he isn’t being transparent about his health. Read the comments on his rebuild. It is nothing to brag about.

There is no good side of town. I have been there recently. I will try to drive through it again this weekend and take notes. But, really, there is no good side of town. If you have been there you would know this to be factual.

You assume I don’t understand the issue, that’s on you. The town’s population is 10% of what it was at it’s peak. The tax base has collapsed. What great ideas do you bring to the table to rescue towns such as this. It’s easy to criticize as a keyboard warrior from afar. All I’m saying is there are more substantive criticisms that can be leveled.

I drove through Braddock mostly every day back in the 80’s - when I worked at the Westinghouse factory in East Pittsburgh. I had an alternate route to work but through Braddock was the quickest. It was a craphole then - the only store front on Braddock Ave. that didn’t have steel bars was the bakery (the name escapes me at the moment). Always wondered what they paid in protection money for the privilege.

The only thing keeping any breath of life there was the Edgar Thompson steel works. It was otherwise your basic ghetto. People I worked with were shocked that I drove through it every day - “Aren’t you scared you might break down and never be seen again?” Can’t imagine it got any better in the ensuing years.

You are like the liberls making all kinds of excuses for Fetterman. Excuse me. HE claims he rebuilt Braddock PA - and it is still a poverty riddled dystopia. This needs to be shown in additon to all the other criticisms, genius.

The town of Lawrenceville, not far from Braddock, would disagree. Lawrenceville’ s success was why Lurch thought he could luck out as Mayor of Braddock.

“ Now let’s see the video on the good side of town.”

I live not far from Braddock. There isn’t a “good side”.

Well written description! Puts the reader right there to visualize the situation.

You should try writing a novel, if you haven’t already.

Thanks, I’ve done some short fiction but the novel is something I’ll likely do in retirement. Need to lay off some of those “dark and stormy night” cliches however. But what I described in Frackville actually happened. I pulled off I-81 after a full day of driving from the Outer Banks in NC and stumbled upon this little town after seeing the Dutch Kitchen road sign. Then I saw the cheap motel and figured it was a decent enough place to spend the night.
