Is it true the monkey pox vax is really the small pox vax?

That was my impression. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared covid 19 a “pandemic.” On December 11, 2020, the Food and Drug Administration authorized the first vaccine for Covid 19 for emergency use. So 9 months from the declaration of “pandemic” to approval of a vaccine can be expected.
However the FDA approved a monkeypox vaccine back in 2019. Previously there was a smallpox vaccine approved earlier that received FDA approval to be used as a monkey pox vaccine.

The smallpox vaccine can be pretty effective against monkeypox, up to 85% from my readings, but I believe this special vaccine from Europe is targeted to just the prior known variant of monkeypox, which should be even better.
