For a reason I’ve never learned (and don’t want to ask in case it would make it go away) our local small town grocery store has a rack of Pepperidge Farms bread for 99 cents per loaf. Sometimes there’s nothing there but last time I got seedless rye and hawaiian sweet bread. They also sometimes have hotdog or hamburger buns. They don’t appear to be day-old.
Cheaper than anywhere else for pretty decent quality product.
Shelves have to be cleared for new shipments.
Maybe they have a deal with the Pepperidge Farm delivery driver, who would otherwise have to pick it up and take it to the discount store.
The outlet doesn’t sell past-date bread. If it doesn’t sell by its date, they sell it to farmers by the pickup-truck load to feed chickens, turkeys, or ducks.
