Black Sabbath is widely, almost universally, accepted as the creator of the Heavy Metal genre of rock and roll.
They deserve to be recognized as much or, more than most other British musicians previously recognized.

Heck Yeah! If any band deserves this kind of praise, it is definitely Black Sabbath. This sounds similar to the way the USA may add cultural art, etc. to the Library Of Congress archives for preservation.

They can wear boat captains hats and docksiders when they collect their award because the Queen of England, by giving them an award, would be labeling them as "Yacht Rock".

If Black Sabbath gets recognized by the Queen, what about Electric Light Orchestra? A group far more popular, innovative and deserving of some kind of award. Two great Birmingham bands, Bev Bevan has played for both.
