Thanks for the translation. I had no idea Guangzhou was the new spelling. I thought Guangzhou was the original name of the huge industrial center northwest of Hong Kong.

What do they call the previously named Chinese dialect of "Cantonese?"

Guangzhou is one of China's largest cities and is only an hour or so north of Hong Kong. As far as the dialect is concerned I think it's still known as Cantonese.

It’s still Cantonese - a while back they were even talking about renaming the city “Canton” again, since it is such an important trade gateway to the West. Under Xi’s rule, that is unlikely to happen - China’s zero-COVID policy has stopped international travel to China almost completely and done immense damage to the many small- and medium-sized Chinese businesses in the Pearl River Delta. Klaus Schwab must be proud - and envious - of Xi’s skill at smashing the middle class.
