One of those novelty songs, that one would wish away, but the tune sticks in in ones mind, one can't.

$$$$$$$$
How about that it’s the ONLY song associated with Mungo Jerry?

Great song. I was surprised to find out he is British.

Summer between freshman and sophomore years of high school. I think it was the last truly carefree summer of my life.
The weird novelty song Timothy was also on the radio that summer.

Yeah, a total one-hit wonder. I might have been the only kid around who knew that Mungo Jerry's name came from T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. I still have a copy of that somewhere.

Love that song. Timothy. Rupert Holmes made that song happen.

It’s a group not a person.
To: Steely Tom
That is a weird song. It was before my time, but I’ve heard it a few times.

There’s a main dude. He and the group are British. Ray Dorset is essentially Mungo Jerry, although his group members on that song were great.

Good. I’ve had Bus Stop by the Hollies rambling through my head the last couple days. Maybe this will replace it.

I liked “Timothy”. It got played on WRKO in Boston during the summer of 1971. I was only 9 years old and didn’t get the cannibalism connection until I was older.

Thank you for that research and factoid. I always wondered where that name came from.
