marched with the Freedom Riders, burned my draft card in Boston to oppose the Vietnam war, and rejected the domination of the Students for a Democratic Society by the American Communist Party in 1967.
As a Methodist minister I stood against the arrogance of the Bishop and his Superintendents. The price of my stubborn independence was the loss of a precious ministry 40 years ago.
I have seen fascism and oligarchy and the insidious deceit of Marxism. Today tyranny by monstrous powers is blatant and obvious. Still, there are foolish comfort seekers who deny their own dignity to keep a modicum of resources over which they have little control. Now that they are in danger of losing everything they have carefully built, eyes begin to open and understanding begins to seep into their addled minds.
This is the time when we will fight to regain the dignity that has been lost or it will remain lost for a long, dark night.
AMEN!
