I had a neighbor who was that kind of person, the patient who wanted antibiotics for a cold, would nag the doctor for a prescription. There was no getting through to her how bad an idea that was, to take antibiotics without needing them. Lord, that woman was a thorn in my side. Her kids were brats, too

I have a deviated septum and was very prone to getting sinus infections especially when I was still a 2 pack a day smoker. My doctors used to give me anti-biotics like they were handing out lollipops to kids. Stuffy nose? Here’s an anti-biotic.

Finally, one day I had a doctor who told me that just because I had a severely stuffy nose, even yellow goop coming out, that doesn’t mean it’s a bacterial infection and how the overuse of anti-biotics when there was no bacterial infection was harmful and causing resistant bacterial strains. That was over 20 years ago.

When I was in HS, I did a research project on the over-use of antibiotics resulting in antibiotic-resistant bacteria. I won several local and regional science fairs for my project. That was over 40 years ago. It’s been known for a long time now, though it was just being acknowledged back then. Doctors who willingly handed out prescriptions for them unnecessarily have made things so much worse. I think most of them have learned their lesson by now, but there are still some poor doctors around. Stay away from them.
