I’m guessing there are not too many extraneous parts on an airliner. it’s not like a hood ornament on a car or something.
Actually, the part looks like it has bearing races on the open end. My guess is this is part of a landing gear assembly... and probably somewhat important.
I’m guessing that hunk will affect the landing rather than flight. That loos like a wheel bearing.
