Sorry, but I will not watch Ironheart or anything else from Dizzy.
Most of the time I watch classic films or operas.
My definition of a classic film is a movie that I've personally watched, and liked. If I don't like it, it's not a classic; it's an overrated bore.:)
That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
I'd have to give some thought about "rating" the movies I've listed here. That's a separate question, and tastes vary. For the films I've listed, the screen is woke/non-woke. As I argue endlessly, reality is conservative. Honest storytellers who don't cheat on character development and outlandish plot devices will tell stories that at least give conservative perspectives room to breathe. I think these films qualify. Stylistically they may not be your cup of tea, but I throw them out there in response to the many freepers (not you) who reflexively complain that everything that Hollywood produces today is woke. Not so. But you already know that. The trick is finding the good stuff, which can get lost in the content firehose.
I also greatly enjoyed the C.S. Lewis movie, though I thought it should have spent more time with the philosophical and religious discussions.
After Yang is too slow and meditative for some folks, but I still think it's the best film of the year, so far.
Montana Story is also a slow burn, but it may be the most thematically conservative movie I've seen this year. It's about finding the grace for confession, forgiveness and reconciliation, and it's beautifully acted. You could preach a pretty good sermon about it. I have a private category that I call "serenity prayer movies." These don't have to involve addiction and recovery, and this one doesn't. It has to do with accepting the things I can't change and the courage to change the things that I can. Any movie that does this will ipso facto be a conservative movie, provided that it's honest about real costs, real dilemmas, and character dynamics.
My fervent hope is that Trump wins 2024, then we get DeSantis for 8 years. I would love to see a DeSantis/Lake or DeSantis/Owens ticket
What I saw last night was a campaign speech. And a good one.
he wouldn’t even recognize it...
Looks like all the Disneyland’s are about to become apartment complexes developers hold meeting.
Classics IMO are films that have stood the test of time and are still worth watching for long after they were made. I would include the silent era through the 70's for most, but some classics have certainly been made since that time. My wife and I have been on a Bogart kick of late and over the past week or two have watched The Maltese Falcon (1941), Across the Pacific (1942), Casablanca (1942), To Have and Have Not (1944), Sahara (1943), and The Bog Sleep (1946). In addition to those Bogart films, we watched Only Angels Have Wings (1939) and Adventures of Don Juan (1948) (looking spectacular in technicolor on a new Blu-ray).
