We even survived without car seats
I had a car seat in 1964. It hooked over the front bench passenger seat and had its own steering wheel and horn. None of those pesky belts. 'sides, our '61 Dodge Lancer didn't have any belts or belt anchors. The seat basically was designed to keep me occupied and going out the door. It did that quite well. My mother was also able to keep an eye on me, and I was NEVER left in the car.

Yep and mothers smoked/drank through pregnancy. They stopped doing that the last 30 years or so and the autism “spectrum”/mental disorders in children skyrocketed.
Maybe moms should go back to smoking and drinking.
