Leonard Nimoy(Spock) narrated a show called "In Search of" back then, and he had a show about a new ice age.

It dropped to a blockbusting -7F... and I know, because mine did! A lesson on antifreeze, learned the hard way.

It was so cold for so long, ice accumulated on the shaded parts of roads and just stayed there. Body shops made a fortune.
