Meanwhile South of the Porous Border: 1.5 Tons of Methamphetamine, 800,000 Fentanyl Pills, 4 Kilograms Opium and 2 Kilograms Marijuana Seized in Record Bust in Sonora, Mexico
Translated Excerpt:
Elements of the Mexican Army achieved one of the largest drug seizures in the state of Sonora after they stopped a truck loaded with more than 800,000 pills of apparent fentanyl, as well as almost 1,500 kilograms of methamphetamine, among other drugs.
The Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) reported that on August 10, the authorities managed to stop a cargo vehicle from the municipality of Culiacán, in Sinaloa, bound for Tijuana, Baja California.
According to the information, it was a truck-type vehicle which used as a front to transport powdered fruit concentrates used to make flavored waters. Thus, Sedena agents implemented dissuasive tactics to divert the vehicle to a Strategic Security Military Post in the town of Querobabi in the municipality of Opodepe, in Sonora. Once at the scene, the vehicle was inspected with gamma rays and subsequently underwent a thorough review, which found irregularities in 46 barrels, where the transported drug was found. 816,486 fentanyl pills, 1,476 kilograms of methamphetamine, 149 kilograms of fentanyl, just over four kilograms of opium gum, as well as two kilograms of marijuana were found in the truck. If the documented number is corroborated, it would be the largest seizure in Sonora made by land interception services during the current administration.
Currently, Sonora is an area disputed by the Sinaloa Cartel, mainly by Los Chapitos, and the Caborca Cartel, founded by Caro Quintero. With the arrest of Rafael Caro-Quintero last month, violence in the area has increased, due to the possible power vacuum left by the leader.
The most violent municipalities in the entity are Guaymas, Cajeme, and Caborca, where there have been armed clashes, kidnappings, and attacks on homes. Within the area, criminal groups affiliated with the large cartels have been formed, which are the ones that dispute the territory, such as Gente Nueva, Grupo Delta, and Los Salazar.

Morelia, Michoacán: 17-Year-Old Motorcyclist Is Arrested With A Weapon And The Dismembered Body Of His Victim
Translated Excerpt:
Security elements located two young people who were circulating on one of the streets of the Libertad neighborhood, they stopped them but the motorcyclists tried to flee; one of them was apprehended
The authorities detained the minor, who has the acronym of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel tattooed on one of his arms.
Personnel from the Civil Guard and the Municipal Police, detained in an operation this morning a motorcycle rider who was carrying a firearm and was traveling with the dismembered body of one of his victims. The teenager is accused of homicide and other crimes in which he could be related.
After the wave of violence that intensified again in recent days in that area of Michoacán bordering the state of Jalisco, Civil Guard personnel reinforced security.
The operational deployment “Blindaje Zamora” was headed by the Undersecretary of State Public Security, José Ortega Silva.
During one of the tours, the state and municipal forces located two young people who were circulating on one of the streets of the Libertad neighborhood.
The officers stopped them and the motorcyclists tried to flee; however, one of them was captured and arrested.
When the 17 years old suspect was searched, the police elements found a .9-millimeter caliber firearm and 14 rounds.
In addition, the adolescent had two black bags, which gave off a hematic fluid odor and in them there was a dismembered human body.
The authorities arrested the minor, who has the acronym of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) tattooed on one of his arms.
After the seizure, the GC officers cordoned off the area and informed the authority responsible for carrying out the investigations.
The arrest is a sign of the violence in Michoacán
That capture occurs following two consecutive days of overflowing violence again in that western area of the entity.
The war in Zamora and surrounding municipalities is being waged between the CJNG and their antagonists the United Cartels.
The dispute over the territory has made Zamora the third municipality in Michoacán, with the most crimes perpetrated and the second most violent in terms of homicides.
For this reason, the Blindaje Zamora operation has been reactivated and reinforced, which initially allowed the crime rate to be lowered in that part of the state.
