When I was younger I did not grasp this idea of a "bubble" of thought that surrounds a group of people.
Now I have seen so many examples of it that it makes me wonder if the majority of the people can ever be made to see things clearly and objectively.
Yes, Washington DC exists in a thought bubble of like minded people reinforcing each others thinking.
“it makes me wonder if the majority of the people can ever be made to see things clearly and objectively.”
Great post. I see that issue here—a lot.
We all carry intellectual and emotional baggage that influences our opinions on things. In addition I do think there is a (poorly understood) genetic component that affects whether we are more rational or more emotional, whether we are strongly affected by the opinions of authority figures or not, etc.
That is why I never take disagreement on an issue personally even if I think the person is way off base due to mass media brainwashing, for example. Some people are just more susceptible to that stuff.
We all saw how they reacted to Trump once he got in the swamp. Also, we can analyze what happened at the Kremlin in the days leading up to the invasion of Ukraine. All yes men were positioned in the Kremlin. No one can say anything else. So the Russian war machine is not performing as well as we would have thought.
Maybe it was Colonel Mustard, in the conservatory, with the pipe wrench.
